T.U.M.M: Community Cooking

T.U.M.M. = Towns United Through Meals and Mentoring

Bringing Towns and Generations Together, One Meal at a Time

Breaking bread is one of the most universal ceremonies, uniting people across generations, backgrounds, and experiences to form a rich community of support and shared experiences. At Durham Middlefield Youth & Family Services (DMYFS), we believe in the power of shared meals to strengthen community bonds. That’s why we’ve partnered with Social Services, Senior Services, and Durham/Middlefield Community Garden to create TUMM, a monthly intergenerational dinner series designed to celebrate our incredible community.
Held on the first Thursday of every month, TUMM! brings together residents of Durham, Middlefield, and Rockfall for a warm, home-cooked community meal. Each dinner is preceded by a unique opportunity: local senior citizens partner with a professional chef to teach youth how to prepare a full (made from scratch) meal! Through hands-on cooking, mentorship, and storytelling, these shared kitchen experiences spark meaningful relationships between generations. No experience needed! Just a willingness and an open heart.
The heart of TUMM! lies in its mission to foster connection, learning, and belonging. As participants cook, eat, and laugh together, they build a stronger, more resilient community, one meal at a time.

TUMM Dinners will take place on the first Thursday of every month at the Durham Community Center. The preparation starts at 2:30 PM on the day of the event. Dinner is served at 5:30 pm.

If you are interested in participating as a mentor for one or more of these meals, please talk to Sue or Morgan, and we will get you signed up!
